The Nerds Behind Credit Karma: Hok

10 Comments | Twitter | |

Hi! Ready to meet another awesome member of the Credit Karma team? Last month, we introduced you to Henry, one of our business development analysts.

Today’s interview features Hok, one of our talented QA Engineers. Hok loves visiting national parks and is into camping and hiking. Also, unlike most of the engineers on the Credit Karma team, he apparently doesn’t get a Nerf gun in the hopes that others would not shoot an unarmed civilian (or… CKer). Eek! Sounds dangerous.

Want to learn more about Hok? Read on!

The Interview

What’s your title at Credit Karma?
Software Engineer in Test

Describe in 25 words or less what you do.
Create test plans for automation, write, maintain, and execute automation scrips, and allocate resources to work on automation.

How long have you worked at CK?
7.5 months.

What’s your favorite thing about working at CK?
The work I do is directly exposed to managers/VP/Product to increase the communication in between, resulting in a much faster pace.

What’s your favorite snack in the CK kitchen?
Fruit Snacks

What is something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
I love bowling (my highest score ever: 267 and I averaged 180 when I used to go weekly). And I love playing music instruments mainly for my church (guitar, bass, drums, piano, ukulele).

What was your worst subject in elementary school?
Chinese / English (Elementary School in Hong Kong).

What’s a secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have?
Hmm. Probably bowling?

If you could pick any superhero power, what would it be and why?
I guess I’d pick Superman’s flying ability because I don’t like spending so much time in commute. My friends and I just spent 24 hours driving to Glacier National Park in June and it was a “memorable” experience. :/

What’s your best credit/money tip?
I’m not a finance person, but I tend to control my expenses quite well. Whenever I want to get something, I look for the cheapest prices online or do a DIY project if I’m capable of it.

Want to meet more members of the Credit Karma team?

Meet Ezra, Jonathan, Cathy, Greg, Danielle, Jason, Andrew, Alex, and Henry!

Stay tuned as we continue to reveal the nerds behind Credit Karma!

If we ever go bowling as a company, I want Hok on my team,

Jenna, Credit Karma Contributor

  1. Nice to meet you Hok! Wow, 24 hours of driving followed by a hike at Glacier Nation Park? Sounds fun but exhausting!

  2. I have a question for Credit Karma. Why is it when I check my
credit scores with the credit bureau TransUnion that there is a
difference of 30 points in your scores and TransUnion. Yours is 30 points higher and states I have a fair score, yet TransUnion differs with your opinion of scores they state my credit score is 565.
I feel very misled. Can you clear this up?

  3. Jenna

Hi Tessie, you can actually have many credit scores from the same credit bureau as there are many different scoring models the bureaus use. You can learn more here: https://www.creditkarma.com/article/differentscores
