Today, we are kicking off a weekly infographic series. Each week, we’ll look at a different aspect of credit and personal finances through numbers and put the information into easy to read graphics.

While the holidays have come and gone, many of us are still feeling the financial sting that is distinct to this most wonderful time of the year. Credit card debt is usually where most consumers have borne the brunt of the holiday weight (financially, at least—I’m sure nana’s cookies haven’t helped other areas either). But it’s important to know that if you are toting some major credit card debt that you are not alone. Here are some numbers from Credit Karma's December 2012 data that may or may not shock you.

Most of what you read in personal finance blogging tells you that you need a perfect credit score. While many of us think about credit scores as a quest for 850, there is really no need to have a perfect credit score.

Last week we covered open credit card utilization. This week, we’re talking about another important factor of your credit score: your percentage of on-time payments. This percentage shows lenders how often you pay your bills on time. A percentage even slightly less than 100 percent can mean trouble for your credit score.

Are you like me? Have you had credit card debt? What about a lot of credit card debt? Exactly one year ago I had $3,000 on my credit card and wasn’t sure how I’d pay it off. I realize $3,000 may or may not sound like a lot to you, based on your own experience with credit cards. But for me it felt like more than I could deal with, and that qualifies as “a lot” in my book.
