The Nerds Behind Credit Karma: Cathy
Hello! It’s that fun time of the week where we introduce you to a member of the Credit Karma team. Last week, we introduced you to Jonathan, our product manager.
This week, we decided to interview Cathy, one of our analysts. Cathy’s our resident food/restaurant connoisseur, although strangely enough, when asked what sense she’d give up if she had to, she replied, “taste.” Shrug. She’s a self-professed nerd, so she probably knows what she’s talking about.

What’s your title at Credit Karma?
Analyst
Describe in 25 words or less what you do.
I dive into our data to answer questions! Did our campaign drive new members? How do we calculate credit card approval odds?
How long have you worked at CK?
A year
What’s your favorite thing about working at CK?
The fact that we are doing good and helping people. Personal finance may be dry and boring to most people, but it’s important to educate yourself and know how your financials can affect your life. Also I am a giant nerd and only three people here make fun of me for it.
What’s your favorite snack in the CK kitchen?
Fage yogurt! And any homemade baked good.
What is something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
In college I was a member of the steel pan group (look up Cardinal Calypso on Youtube!) and played the double tenors. It was (and continues to be) the coolest thing ever.
What was your worst subject in elementary school?
Definitely gym class – I am an uncoordinated mess.
What’s a secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have?
I’m pretty good at finding things on the internet. Like cat videos, otter videos, or my favorite, penguin videos.
If you could pick any superhero power, what would it be and why?
The power to Apparate. No more commute, no more waiting for a bus, no more security line at the airport…no more 20 hour flights!
What’s your best credit/money tip?
Make a budget, don’t spend beyond your means, and pay off your credit card every month!
