The Nerds Behind Credit Karma: Hok
Today’s interview features Hok, one of our talented QA Engineers. Hok loves visiting national parks and is into camping and hiking. Also, unlike most of the engineers on the Credit Karma team, he apparently doesn’t get a Nerf gun in the hopes that others would not shoot an unarmed civilian (or… CKer). Eek! Sounds dangerous.
Want to learn more about Hok? Read on!
What’s your title at Credit Karma?
Software Engineer in Test
Describe in 25 words or less what you do.
Create test plans for automation, write, maintain, and execute automation scrips, and allocate resources to work on automation.
How long have you worked at CK?
What’s your favorite thing about working at CK?
The work I do is directly exposed to managers/VP/Product to increase the communication in between, resulting in a much faster pace.
What’s your favorite snack in the CK kitchen?
What is something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
I love bowling (my highest score ever: 267 and I averaged 180 when I used to go weekly). And I love playing music instruments mainly for my church (guitar, bass, drums, piano, ukulele).
What was your worst subject in elementary school?
Chinese / English (Elementary School in Hong Kong).
What’s a secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have?
Hmm. Probably bowling?
If you could pick any superhero power, what would it be and why?
I guess I’d pick Superman’s flying ability because I don’t like spending so much time in commute. My friends and I just spent 24 hours driving to Glacier National Park in June and it was a “memorable” experience. :/
What’s your best credit/money tip?
I’m not a finance person, but I tend to control my expenses quite well. Whenever I want to get something, I look for the cheapest prices online or do a DIY project if I’m capable of it.
