Nerds Behind Credit Karma: Helen
Hey there! It’s that fun time of the month where we get to introduce you to another awesome member of the Credit Karma team! Just as a quick reminder, last month we introduced you to Hok, one of our great software engineers.
Today, meet Helen! Helen’s first job involved dissecting cow eyeballs, which is quite different from her role of marketing manager at Credit Karma. She also carries around a Star Trek action figure as a good luck charm. We love this, as we’re all a little nerdy around here.
Learn more about Helen below!
What’s your title at Credit Karma?
Describe in 25 words or less what you do.
I run online marketing campaigns to bring in new Credit Karma members and engage current members.
How long have you worked at CK?
I’ve been working here since March of this year, so just about 5 months now.
What’s your favorite thing about working at CK?
The people, definitely. We actually like each other! It helps that everyone’s a little bit nerdy, and we seem to have similar senses of humor.
What’s your favorite snack in the CK kitchen?
I have a love/hate relationship with chips (so delicious…so terrible for me), so they’re both my favorite and least favorite snack in the kitchen.
What is something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
I’m ever-so-slightly afraid of cats. The claws, the teeth, the evil judgmental stare…
What was your worst subject in elementary school?
Probably P.E. Memories of kickball haunt me to this day.
What’s a secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have?
I’m pretty good at imitating accents. I used to run into trouble because I’d start mimicking someone’s accent without even realizing it. It helped in my language classes though!
If you could pick any superhero power, what would it be and why?
The ability to freeze time! Like Evie from Out of this World. There’d finally be enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do. Plus, there are always those moments you wish would last just a little longer.
What’s your best credit/money tip?
Be frugal and live below your means. You’ll end up with savings for a rainy day, and you’ll have the freedom to make an impromptu purchase now and then without worrying if you can afford it.
