The Nerds Behind Credit Karma: Jonathan

In case you’re just joining us, we’re currently in a fun series where we introduce you to some members of the Credit Karma team. Last week, we introduced you to Ezra, our creative content producer.

Today’s interview features Jonathan, our product manager. Besides knowing that we share the same alma mater (Go Bears!), I didn’t really know much about Jonathan or what he does at Credit Karma (besides attack people with his giant nerf gun, of course).

But now I know… well, read on to find out!

The Interview

What’s your title at Credit Karma?
Product Manager

Describe in 25 words or less what you do.
I work with the various teams at Credit Karma to realize our shared goal of being a service that is useful and educational to everyone.

How long have you worked at CK?
I joined Credit Karma in April 2011 and it has been a fun year and a half so far!

What’s your favorite thing about working at CK?
My favorite part is watching how our new features are shaped by each team as they get involved. Everyone here looks out for our users and when they bring their expertise to the table I always see great results.

What’s your favorite snack in the CK kitchen?
I wouldn’t eat it at home, but I love the hostess brownie bites when I’m in the office.

What is something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
I’ve been learning how to bake bread! After several failed attempts due to killing off my yeast, I’ve started to finally get the hang of it and am now on to the fancier ones.

What was your worst subject in elementary school?
Arts & Crafts – I never graduated past stick figures.

What’s a secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have?
I can kind of sing, but only in the lower ranges which makes it kind of hard to karaoke.

If you could pick any superhero power, what would it be and why?
Instant teleportation! As long as I could avoid getting stuck in objects upon arrival I could easily travel the world and take side-gigs as the fastest courier in the world!

What’s your best credit/money tip?
When I am able to save money I try to take a moment to feel good about it. This process helps me avoid satisfying my immediate wants at the cost of my long term goals.

Stay tuned as we continue to reveal the nerds behind Credit Karma!

Hoping that Jonathan will bring fresh-baked bread into the office one day,

Jenna, Credit Karma Contributor

Thanks, Christian! I’m hoping to make it a weekly thing until we run out of volunteers to be interviewed. Then I might have to bribe people with cookies. :)
