The Nerds Behind Credit Karma: Igor

Hey there! It’s that exciting time of the month where we get to meet another awesome member of the Credit Karma team! Last month, we introduced you to Juan, one of our amazing operations engineers.

Today, meet Igor! Igor moved from Berlin to the United States 8 years ago “because [he] wanted some excitement in [his] life”. And we’re super glad that he found the US exciting enough to want to stay… he’s a great addition to the team!

The Interview

What’s your title at Credit Karma?
Front-End Web Developer Lead

Describe what you do at Credit Karma.
After our team of designers finishes working on the mockups, they give them to me and I code them into something that can be understood by Internet browsers. After that, it goes to the back-end developers.

How long have you worked at CK?
I’ve been on the team since November 2008. This year will be my 5th anniversary… and I was employee number 5, I believe!

What’s your favorite thing about working at CK?
The great people and the ability to do what I love while improving my financial health. Oh yes, and I love that people here understand my humor.

What’s your favorite snack in the CK kitchen?
I rarely snack… I don’t think of it as being healthy.

What is something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
I lived in Thailand for 6 months and even tried to learn Thai (and I did have some success with it).

What was your worst subject in elementary school?
I was good in pretty much every subject, except maybe sports because I thought of it as a waste of my time.

What’s a secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have?
I make people laugh without even trying.

If you could pick any superhero power, what would it be and why?
The power to fly or teleport. Why? I like to travel!

What’s your best credit/money tip?
Never spend more than you can afford. It’s much easier to ruin your finances than to fix it.

  2. Experien rates my score as 790 and you rate it at 769! Why is this 21 points different?

  4. The site has changed. Where is the option to refresh your credit score???? I don’t see that option anywhere???? This is no longer user friendly I do know that!

    The site will automatically update for your if it’s been more than seven days since your last update. You just need to log in. Hope that helps!

  6. This new structured site would be better if it included the older site version where the info could still be updated daily. Also to me it not user friendly and I personally would not link all my account security info at one place where a potential treat from hackers could exist. I’ve been using this site for many years as a tool to monitor and improve my credit but I don’t see the advantages with this site being restructured. Some things are added and some taken away. Please tell me why there are no more daily updates available. Thank you.

  7. Hi Tom. We’ve made the Credit Karma experience more simplified and streamlined by giving automatic score updates if it’s been a week since your last login. However, if there’s a significant change in your credit report, we’ll update your score right then, no matter how long it’s been since your last update. Additionally, the new account monitoring feature we’ve added gives you daily monitoring of your accounts, including balances, deposits and transactions. We’ve replaced something that changes monthly (your credit report) with something that is more likely to change daily (your online accounts). I do understand your security concerns. We use bank-level security to keep your information as safe as possible.
